Tegucigalpa, February 7 (RHC)-- The Official Newspaper La Gaceta of Honduras has published the proclamation of the Amnesty Law for Political Prisoners, which condemns the military coup during the mandate of former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya in 2009.

The legislation was approved on February 2nd by the National Congress led by Congressman Luis Redondo, and by the president of the South American country, Xiomara Castro.  The law commutes political prisoners, civil servants; as well as police authorities who have been affected by the coup d'état to the former president Manuel Zelaya; in the middle of political controversies between the Honduran Parliament and social groups before the benefits that the legal norm grants to the actors of illicit acts.  

According to the National Anti-Corruption Council (CNA), the legislation becomes a new impunity pact, since it pardons citizens with ongoing investigations for criminal acts committed up to the date of entry into force of the law.

Likewise, the Salvador Party of Honduras pointed out that the regulation directly influences Hondurans exercising their constitutional right to social protest; as well as protagonists of acts in defense of national sovereignty, in favor of the communities.  "It cannot set precedents that will serve as tools to, in the future, provoke impunity in the country," emphasized the ANC.
