Los Angeles, June 9 (RHC)-- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Santiago Cafiero, urged on Wednesday the Organization of American States (OAS) not to promote instability in the region within the framework of the Summit of the Americas being held in the United States.
"We must leave behind the sad pages of history and promote integration. The OAS should never again legitimize destabilization processes or get involved in a coup d'état as it did in Bolivia," said Cafiero during his speech at the IX Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles.
The Argentinean official rejected the blockades and sanctions endorsed by the OAS and maintained that this has a negative effect on the fight against inequality and for development.
"If the institutions that are called to promote development and dialogue take the wrong path, we will raise our voices in defense of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean," the Argentinean foreign minister emphasized.
At the same time, Cafiero advocated for equity as a basis for political stability in the region and for maintaining harmony in international relations. "If it is not us, if these spheres are not the ones in charge of responding, of resolving injustices that are prolonged over time, then what are we for?" Cafiero asked.
