Brasilia, August 11 (RHC)--The Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) led protests and demonstrations against the law of demarcation of indigenous territories, promoted by the federal government.

The demonstrations coincided with the commemoration of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, which, according to APIB, in addition to the National Day of Struggles for the Demarcation of Territories takes place for the right to life.

Among the actions organized by this day is the denunciation that will be filed in the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) of the whole country, which denounces the president of the National Indian Foundation (Funai), Marcelo Xavier, for the commission of the crime of administrative improbity.

The petition filed by APIB and other organizations also punctuates the sequence of violations against indigenous peoples carried out by President Jair Bolsonaro since his election in 2018.  An example of this was the withdrawal of the attribution of demarcation of Indigenous Lands to Funai and the transfer to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, as well as the failure to declare or approve any Indigenous Land in the period from 2019 to August 2022.

In particular, the demonstrations are aimed at denouncing the constant violence and the violation of rights suffered by the communities.

In short, the demonstrations of the native peoples are proposed as main slogans "the demarcation of indigenous lands, against the release of mining and leasing of our territories, against the attempt to relax the environmental licensing, against the financing of weapons in the countryside."

The APIB denounces "the situation of extreme vulnerability of isolated indigenous peoples who are increasingly threatened by the advance of deforestation and the invasions of loggers and miners".

In this sense, it recalls that putting an end to indigenous territories is the priority of the government of Jair Bolsonaro, in view of which it is necessary to stop the bills 191/20, which allows mining and prospecting within indigenous lands and 3729/04, which facilitates environmental licensing.

The Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil is an organization of resistance and collective struggle built by the regional organizations: Articulation of Indigenous Peoples and Organizations of the Northeast, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo (Apoinme), Articulation of Indigenous Peoples and Organizations of the Southeast (Arpin Southeast), Articulation of Indigenous Peoples and Organizations of the South (ArpinSul), as well as the Yvyrupa Guarani Commission and the Terena and Coiab Popular Council.
