Brasilia, January 9 (RHC)-- Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited on Sunday night the Planalto Palace in the capital Brasilia, the Congress and the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to assess the scale of the damage caused by supporters of Jair Bolsonaro.

Local media reported that before Lula da Silva arrived in the Brazilian capital, the government and STF headquarters were subjected to a sweep by a Federal Police bomb squad.  Both buildings suffered significant damage after the invasion by supporters of the ultra-right-wing candidate, defeated in the October presidential elections.

The damages caused by the bolsonaristas include cultural heritage difficult to recover, such as several works of art and sculptures.  According to preliminary information, the demonstrators broke computers and windows and also overturned crates in the premises that the Bolsonaristas managed to reach.

Upon noting the damage to the headquarters of the three branches of government, Lula da Silva decreed the intervention of the security area of the Federal District Brasilia until next January 31, in view of the situation that the country's capital experienced for almost four hours.

President Lula da Silva called the coup attempt promoted by supporters of Jair Bolsonaro "barbaric" and accused the former president of "stimulating" the acts of vandalism.
