Polisario Front demands respect for self-determination and independence
El Aaiun, January 15 (RHC)-- The leader of the Polisario Front, Brahim Gali, reiterated Friday the demand of respect for the self-determination and independence of the people of Western Sahara.
Speaking at the opening of the 16th Congress of the Polisario Front, which will last until January 17, Gali said that the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic -SADR-, will not get involved in any peace process that deviates from the initial plan of the UN and the African Union.
Words that indirectly renewed the rejection of the Spanish government's turnaround last year when President Pedro Sanchez aligned himself with Morocco by signing up to Rabat's initiative which Donald Trump had joined at the end of his term in office.
Gali did not overlook the fact, arguing that it is a "dangerous change and a betrayal that legitimizes the (Moroccan) occupation and violates international law, making it clear that the Polisario's relations with Madrid will remain frozen."
"We confirmed at our XVIth Congress that the Saharawi people will continue its just war of liberation", the also president of SADR categorically concluded.
The meeting took place in the refugee camp of Dakhla, one of the Wilayas on Algerian territory which reproduce the real Saharawi sites in the zone of Western Sahara dominated by Morocco.
At the end of his speech, in perfect Spanish, he declared that before leaving the microphone "I have to thank the Latin American solidarity present at the Congress," referring implicitly to the participation of delegations from Cuba, Venezuela, Panama, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua and Argentina.
