His Majesty fulfilled a busy schedule during the 28th Ibero-American Summit.

Havana, Mar 26 (RHC) The King of Spain, Felipe VI, today pondered the need to intensify ties in Latin America, while calling for a closer relationship with the European Union (EU).

His Majesty fulfilled a busy schedule during the 28th Ibero-American Summit.

Felipe VI took advantage of his speech to encourage the participants to find a space for greater exchange and cooperation with the EU, whose presidency will be assumed by Spain in the second half of the current year.

He advocated further strengthening the links between the Ibero-American countries with the opportunities offered by a large project “that requires a common strategic vision and the greatest commitment of all.”

The sovereign emphasized the holding of the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Brussels in July.

He announced that in the Belgian capital, “a portfolio of strategic investment projects for the region will be presented that will have the support of the EU and its member states.”

The King of Spain met on Saturday with the president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, and the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader.

Likewise, he spoke with a representation of young Ibero-American leaders about the future of the region, in addition to taking part in an act of support for the Ibero-American Disability Program, aimed at inclusion.

He completed his agenda with his presence at the closing of the XIV Ibero-American Business Meeting, together with Abinader and the leaders of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso; Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, and the Ibero-American Secretary General, Andrés Allamand.

The Spanish monarch commented, among other issues, on the Global Agreement with Mexico and the Association Agreement with Chile with Central America and with Mercosur. (Source: PL)
