Havana, March 27 (RHC) The former president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, reiterated his support for the Argentinian vice president, Cristina Fernández, and pointed out that one of the great challenges of popular governments in Latin America is to achieve true judicial independence.

In an interview with a radio station, Correa also condemned the attack perpetrated against the former head of state on September 1, 2022. “She is alive by a miracle. There is a corrupt press that tries to instill hatred in the hearts of certain vulnerable people so that guys like that feel patriotic by murdering a person," he said, referring to Fernando Sabag, who tried to shoot Cristina Fernández outside her apartment in this capital.

“Surely Cristina must be affected. Can you imagine the terror of being in a public meeting and someone wanting to shoot you? We must have limits. Some believe that in politics anything goes. It is clear that this is not politics”.

He also warned that the media, economic and judicial powers are capable of anything when their interests are affected.

Correa denounced the actions to ban the also head of the Senate of Argentina cand himself in Ecuador, and indicated that the new progressive wave in the region has the great challenge of trying to reform the judicial systems. (Source: Prensa Latina)
