Nine other officials are arrested for alleged crimes of corruption in the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana

Havana, April 3 (RHC) Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced this Sunday about the arrest of nine other officials for alleged crimes of corruption in the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana (CVG).

In messages broadcast through Twitter, Saab explained that the detainees are Pedro Maldonado, president of the CVG, and the vice presidents of Planning, Edgar Sánchez; of Iron and Steel, Felipe Contreras; Executive, Lino Mora, and Finance, Tulio Medina.

The Traffic and Customs manager, Carlos Moreno, was also arrested; the Director of the Office, Johan Sequera; the manager of Legal Affairs, Isaac Mouhamad Salazar, and the president of Siderúrgica del Orinoco (Sidor), Néstor Astudillo.

Due to acts of corruption, the Venezuelan government appointed an oversight board in CVG. In a decree published in the Official Gazette, it was detailed that the intervention in said company will last one year from the publication of the decree and that this process will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines set forth therein.

In another message, Saab specified that to date "42 individuals linked to the various corruption schemes that sought to embezzle the national economy, harming the community in general, have been arrested."

The operation of the Public Ministry regarding CVG executives took place after the investigations carried out by the Venezuelan Government as well as the statements provided by the criminal network in the case called PDVSA-Cripto.

As part of this process, more than 20 people have been arrested so far, including judges, public officials and businessmen, of whom 19 have been brought before the courts. (Source: Telesur)
