Caracas, May 26 (RHC)-- The Electoral Commission of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in Caracas decided to suspend the elections scheduled for this Friday in which the authorities would be renewed, after 15 years.   The elections were scheduled to begin Friday morning, but due to multiple failures that delayed the process for more than five hours, the suspension was announced.

The decision was rejected by members of the university community, made up of students, graduates, professors, retirees, administrative staff and workers.  "Out Cecilia, we don't want you here anymore.  Chama, let go of the money.  We don't want you.  Enough of this abuse.... tell the truth, you want to continue stealing the money."

On its Twitter account, the UCV Electoral Commission indicated that a date, June 9, was proposed to the University Council for the new process. This instance will have to discuss it and then make the formal call.

The date for holding the new electoral process with due electoral guarantees was proposed to the CU.

More than 200,000 people were qualified to participate in these elections, which would be held after 15 years, so they asked for an explanation about what happened.  More than 200 positions were to be renewed, including those of rector, academic and administrative vice-rector, deans and faculty representatives.

According to the Venezuelan Universities Law, these educational institutions are autonomous, covering organizational, economic and financial, as well as administrative matters, particularly, to elect and appoint their authorities, appoint their teaching, research and administrative personnel.
