Buenos Aires, July 29 (RHC)-- Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo confirmed the finding and restitution of the identity of grandson 133 in Argentina, being the first restitution so far in 2023.   The news, reason for meeting and celebration by human rights organizations, was announced at a conference at the House for Identity of the Memory and Human Rights Space (exESMA).

The meeting was attended by the Grandmother of Plaza de Mayo, Estela de Carlotto, as well as Miguel "Tano" Santucho and Julio Santucho, brother and father of the restituted grandson, respectively, who told all the vicissitudes and experiences in their long journey of research.

"The work and the search that we Grandmothers do is so serious and so tremendously difficult from love, they don't hurt us, they encourage us.  Those who doubt, come and tell us your doubts.  They can be anywhere in the world.  Our task is carried out in the world.  They could be forty-something years old with a doubt," said the grandmother.

The last restitution was in December 2022, when in the same month and with only days of difference the biological and historical identity of two children born in captivity and of families victims of State terrorism during the last civil-military dictatorship were returned.

These findings are the product of the united work of Abuelas together with the National Commission for the Right to Identity (Conadi), the National Bank of Genetic Data (BNDG) and the Specialized Unit for Cases of Child Appropriation during State Terrorism (Uficante).
