Mexican delegation headed by Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena, in the United States for talks on migration and drugs.
Washington, Aug 11 (RHC) Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena continued her official visit to Washington on Thursday with talks on migration and drugs, and meetings with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
Delegation sources said that they discussed mobility and migration, collaboration in the fight against synthetic drug trafficking and cross-border cooperation.
In this first visit to the U.S. capital, the head of Mexican diplomacy also held a meeting with Hispanic and migrant rights organizations.
According to the sources, the meeting, which was attended by representatives of associations such as Mi Familia Vota, Unidos US, Mana, A National Latina Organization and Hispanic Federation, among others, gave "follow-up to the impulse that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is giving to the protection of our fellow countrymen and women abroad".
Mexico's ambassador to the United States, Esteban Moctezuma, one of the officials accompanying Bárcena on the visit, said that the foreign minister's agenda of activities includes meetings with high-level government officials, think tanks, businessmen, Latino organizations and the Mexican community.
The idea of the visit to Washington is to endorse the commitment with our nationals, the constant work in favor of Mexico's development and the strengthening of bilateral relationship, she said.
This Thursday Bárcena and her entourage met with President Joe Biden's National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan. Then, they met with migration experts, after which Bárcena had a public conversation at the Atlantic Council. She also met with her U.S. counterpart Blinken, after which both held a press conference.
