Caracas, September 17 (RHC)-- The Venezuelan Congress condemned Tuesday plans by two violent opposition activists to carry out terrorist attacks across the country. A video, revealed on Monday, showed they wanted to target bridges, shops and discos.

“The opposition's main goal is to break Venezuelan people's confidence and create a situation of social unrest (…) behind all of these actions, the aim is to force men, women, children and families into hunger,” said Deputy National Assembly Speaker Blanca Eekhout.

The National Assembly also denounced the economic destabilization campaign carried out by the right-wing opposition, which Eekhout linked with the violent plans shown in the video.

As part of the discussion, the Assembly approved an agreement to support President Nicolas Maduro, who has been attacked by right-wing opposition figures for the economic measures he has implemented to stop smuggling in the border with Colombia.

The illegal smuggling of goods allocated to Venezuelans, often at a subsidized rate, affects almost 40% of staple goods, generating shortages in the Venezuelan market.
