United Nations, September 19 (teleSUR-RHC) -- A week before the United Nations is scheduled to hold a climate summit in New York, Central American countries decided to launch a regional project of education over climate change in their respective countries during a workshop hold in the frame of the U.N. project Learn About Climate Change.

Last Tuesday in the Dominican Republic, the workshop that gathered eight Central American countries and their delegations from the Integration System (SICA) concluded. The meeting was held with the support of the Secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The Central American Integration System (SICA) representatives decided to ask U.N. To support the project, which will include the creation of a network articulating countries, ministries, local governments, NGOs, indigenous peoples, as well as women and youth organizations. The network will update and broadcast the information about climate change.

The U.N. Secretary of Climate Change Adriana Valenzuela praised this first regional strategy over climate change and education.

She added that Central America found itself in an opportune time as a bloc to support collective and ambitious actions that address the climate change, and highlighted the need to create a public awareness to mobilize the required action.
