Internet to benefit poor families in northeastern Colombia

Bogota, Jul 16 (RHC) Around 15 thousand low-income families will have Internet access in Magdalena, northeastern Colombia, according to a communication available on the website of the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications.

According to the source, this will be thanks to the signing of an agreement between the ministerial portfolio and the National Academic Network of Advanced Technology (Renata), to develop a neutral network that will bring connectivity to homes in four municipalities in the north of this department.

The investment of 25 billion pesos by the Government will contribute to the closing of digital gaps in these territories and will improve the quality of life of poor families, who will enjoy high speed internet at low costs, according to the information disclosed.

This benefit will even reach the Palafitos villages, where only 25 percent of the inhabitants enjoy this service, he explained.

The initiative will enable the expansion of connectivity in vulnerable and remote areas, which is crucial to reduce inequalities in the use of technology, the communication added.
