Caracas, July 24 (RHC)-- The multimedia platform teleSUR emerged in 2005 from a joint idea of presidents Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro.

On July 24th, Venezuelans commemorate the birth of the Liberator Simon Bolivar.  On this date, they also celebrate the 19th anniversary of teleSUR, the channel that broadcasts the faces and voices of the people of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The President of teleSUR, Patricia Villegas, said: “19 years building the largest communications alternative in the Global South!!  Let’s go for more!"

Villegas expressed her appreciation to all the workers -- journalists and technicans -- that make the transmissions possible.  "Thanks to its commitment to counter-hegemonic communication, teleSUR has earned worldwide respect and recognition for its truthful content and coverage, even in the most adverse circumstances."

The multimedia president said that despite repeated attacks by transnational conservative forces, teleSUR grows stronger and more resilient each day, successfully integrating and adapting to digital communication through social media."

After 19 years of producing content in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, teleSUR aims to emphasize internet content production, expand on all social media platforms, and increase online distribution.

To achieve these goals, teleSUR has installed state-of-the-art production centers in Caracas, Quito, Mexico City, and Havana.

Since its foundation in 2005, the multi-state platform has aimed to contribute to the efforts for Latin American integration, being the voice of social struggles that are often ignored by mainstream media.
