Amman, January 30 (RHC)-- Jordan has rejected a proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump that the Arab country, along with Egypt, should take Palestinians from Gaza.
Jordanian politicians have condemned the proposal as completely unacceptable, warning that it poses a direct threat to both Jordanian sovereignty and the Palestinian cause.

Zein Al-Din Attia, a Jordanian journalist, told reporters: "Most critically, the immediate reconstruction of Gaza is essential to ensure that Gazans remain steadfast on their land."

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi says Jordan firmly rejects any displacement of Palestinians and the undermining of their historical rights.  He says Jordanian sovereignty should be protected as well.   "This is not merely a principled and steadfast stance for the Kingdom, but the necessity for achieving the security, stability and peace we all seek."

The Jordanian foreign minister said: "Resolving the Palestinian issue on a just foundation that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people is essential to restoring the security and stability long denied to the region."

Political blocs, trade unions and national organizations in Jordan have also strongly rejected Trump's proposal, saying that relocation of Gazans constitutes a violation of Palestinian rights.

Trump's proposal to uproot Gazans to Egypt and Jordan remains highly controversial, with many asserting that a lasting solution requires respecting Palestinian rights and adhering to international resolutions.
