Bogota, January 17 (RHC-PL) -- A group of computer experts will investigate threats posted on social networks against political leaders, human rights defenders and Colombian activists, while the intimidation attempts were rejected today by many voices in Bogota.
Attorney General Eduardo Montealegre confirmed that a group has been created to lead the investigations on the cyberspace and other platforms, in an attempt to identify perpetrators and halt such actions, said the newspaper El Espectador.
According to Montealegre, the threats issued in the recent days seek to arouse anxiety and destabilize the peace talks undergoing in Havana between representatives of the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP).
Threats were addressed to left-wing leaders, people very committed to negotiations seeking to end the war period, which lasts over 50 years.
On Monday night, former senator Piedad Cordoba denounced that she received at home a funeral wreath on behalf of the criminal organization Las Aguilas Negras, along with intimidating messages.
Cordoba, also lawyer and representative of the group Marcha Patriotica, later accused extreme right-wing sectors of hatching plans to attempt her life. Some 39 human rights defenders also suffered similar verbal attacks.
On Facebook and Twitter, the population condemned such actions and called for protecting Cordoba and other supporters of the peace process.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Juan Fernando Cristo said that the actions will be thoroughly investigated and efforts will be concentrated to expose those responsible.
