Kabul, March 26 (RHC)-- At least 20 people have been killed in two U.S. drone attacks in northeastern Afghanistan over the past two days. According to reports, one of the strikes targeted the positions of pro-Taliban militants near the Pakistani border in Kunar Province late on Tuesday.

The attack killed 11 Pakistani militants, including at least six high-ranking commanders, the reports added. Earlier in the day, another U.S. drone strike claimed the lives of nine Pakistani militants in Nazyan District in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province.

The slain militants were affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Islam, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Abdullah Azam Brigade terrorist groups, Pakistani security officials said.

Following the Nangarhar drone strike, unidentified gunmen opened fire on vehicles in a highway in the eastern Afghan

province of Wardak, where pro-Taliban militants control much of the territory.

Since 2004, the US has been carrying out drone strikes in Afghanistan and several other Muslim countries, such as Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Somalia despite international criticism.
