United Nations, June 23 (RHC)-- The United Nations has again recognized the inalienable right of the Puerto Rican people to independence and their self-determination after 117 years of U.S. domination.

In statements to Prensa Latina news agency, the head of the UN Special Decolonization Committee Javier Lasso, highlighted the committee's approval of a new resolution, urging Washington to put an end to its colonial domination, thus allowing the Puerto Rican people to fully exercise their rights.

The resolution, presented by Cuba and co-sponsored by Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria and Venezuela, is the 34th of its kind discussed and approved by the UN committee on the colonial status of Puerto Rico.

The document reiterates the Latin American and Caribbean nature of Puerto Rico and recognizes its unique, distinctive national identity and culture.
