Santiago de Chile, September 26 (teleSUR-RHC) -- A group of 33 Chilean miners will travel to the Vatican where they will meet with Pope Francis to share their terrifying experience of being trapped underground for nearly 70 days in the San Jose Mine. Global media outlets covered the ordeal extensively as rescue missions tried to reach the men who were trapped 2,300 ft underground and about three miles from the mine's entrance. All 33 men were brought safely to the surface on Oct. 13, 2010 by a rescue operation that lasted nearly 24 hours. “The trip to Rome will be an opportunity to thank everyone that struggled for us while we were trapped and that prayed for Chile,” Omar Reygadas the spokesperson for the group stated. The visit also coincides with the official premier of the new movie titled, “The 33”, which tells the gripping true story of the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days during the 2010 disaster. Reygadas did not reveal the exact date of their visit to the Vatican, however he hinted that the Pope would be allowed to watch a private screening of the movie before the film’s expected release date of November 13th. The film stars Spanish actor Antonio Banderas and French actress Juliette Binoche, as well as Rodrigo Santoro and Kate del Castillo.
