Buenos Aires, September 29 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Argentina's presidential candidate Daniel Scioli, from the governing Front for Victory (FPV) will continue the human rights policy developed by presidents Nestor Kirchner and Cristina Fernandez.

“He is a guarantee that this (policy) will continue. He has announced the (Human Rights) Secretariat will become a Ministry… he is a man I fully trust,” Estela de Carlotto, the leader of the human rights group Grandmothers of Mayo Plaza told teleSUR English on Monday.

Since the victory of late President Nestor Kirchner, Argentina’s government has implemented a proactive policy to investigate the crimes committed during the country's last military dictatorship and to charge those who participated in state crimes.

His wife, current President Cristina Kirchner, has followed and developed further the same human rights policies.

Scioli has surged in opinion polls, after facing a small advantage over his closest competitor Mayor Mauricio Macri.

According to an opinion poll released by Ricardo Rouvier & Associates company on Monday last week, Scioli is predicted to be elected in a first round vote.

Public opinion has shifted after a massive corruption scandal was revealed, involving Buenos Aires mayor and the main opposition candidate Mauricio Macri.

Until recently, Scioli was not expected to reach the 40 percent required to win in a first round and would meet Macri in a second round on November. But now, the FPV candidate is leading by over 10 percent and could avoid the run-off vote.

During the last military dictatorship in Argentina, tens of thousands were forcefully disappeared by the state, making the human rights investigation a prominent issue for many. Elections are scheduled to take place on October 25th.
