Quito, November 2 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Young activists from more than 400 Ecuadorean grass-root organizations met over the weekend in the coastal city of Guayaquil to discuss environmental issues and propose solutions to address climate change and its impacts. They particularly discussed the implications of climate change on Ecuadorean communities and regions across the countries. The youth climate summit is titled “National Summit of Integrated Youth for Climate Change” and has been endorsed by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization. Participating delegates at the event spoke about issues such as adaptation and mitigation, food security and sovereignty, climate funding, mobility, infrastructure and sustainable housing. Various international and national experts addressed those in attendance. The summit will conclude with a joint declaration to presented at this week's meeting of Environment Ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, in Quito, Ecuador. Officials at the CELAC meeting will aim to reach a regional unified position to be presented at the upcoming World U.N. Climate Change Conference (COP 21), in Paris. The weekend's declaration will also be shared in Paris, as a contribution from youth to the international conference. The weekend's summit is the culmination of several preparatory events that have taken place throughout Ecuador, which have guaranteed the presence of delegates from the Afro-Ecuadorean community, indigenous groups, student organizations, artists, disabled people and a wide array of social actors.
