Mexico City, November 10 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Violence has struck again in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero. According to local authorities, an attack on a fair late Sunday left 10 people dead, including a child, while seven others are injured.

The Guerrero prosecutor's office said a group of heavily armed men raided a fair in Cuajinicuilapa and indiscriminately opened fire on attendees. Local officials have launched an investigation into the shooting, according to Reforma.

The attack took place during a cockfight, authorities said. But there is no information regarding who the targets of the attack were and who is responsible for it, they added. The government immediately deployed police to the place of the incident, but no arrests were made.

Guerrero is one of Mexico's most violent states with a homicide rate of 48 per 100,000 inhabitants, while the state’s internationally famous beach Acapulco is the world’s most dangerous city with over 107 homicides per 100,000.

The Governor of Guerrero, Hector Astudillo, last week acknowledged the state was going through some very dangerous times, and warned all the mayors and officials to be careful.

He also announced that 1,500 federal forces were to be deployed across the state in an attempt to put the situation under control as part of a new security strategy for Guerrero.
