Lima, November 21 (RHC-PL) -- The plan to eradicate hunger fostered by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was described in a Latin American parliamentary meeting as a priority, said the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
According to the FAO, those attending the 6th Forum of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean said that the plan points out the full validity of the people's right to food.
The meeting agreed as priorities for 2016 the implementation of CELAC's plan through policies and actions in each member country of the region, where 34,300,000 people are affected by hunger, as well as meeting the new goals of the Agenda for Sustainable Development.
For the implementation of CELAC plan for Food and Nutrition Security and the Eradication of Hunger 2025, the parliamentarians stated the need to boost regulations and proper budgets.
The meeting was attended by some 80 parliamentarians from 25 countries, foreign officials and representatives from civil society, as well as some 20 lawmakers from Spain, Asia and Africa.
At the meeting Mexico was defined as the venue of the 7th Forum of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2016.
