Bogotá, November 25 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Colombian police have dismantled at least two human trafficking rings in the country that operated an elaborate scheme to send women to China and sell them into prostitution circles.

The Colombian Directorate of Criminal Investigation and the human trafficking investigative branch of Interpol said the bust was part of an ongoing 10-month investigation, according to media reports Monday.
      
At least six people were detained in relation to the sex trafficking circles after operations were carried out in Bogotá and Medellin.

According to officials, the suspects had been operating through a travel agency known as Dream Travel to contact and recruit women to work in China, promising them stable work conditions and high salaries.

The suspects would then take the women's passports upon arrival in China and force them into prostitution circles to “pay off their debt.”

In some cases, the suspects even sent small stipends home to the women's families in order to offset any suspicions of wrongdoing, added police.

Police also announced over the weekend that a second sex trafficking ring had been busted in the city of Armenia, just west of Bogotá. Five people were arrested for their part in capturing young girls, promising them entry into local beauty pageants and economic benefits, only to force them into prostitution circles in towns around the Colombia-Ecuador border region.
