Caracas, January 5 (RHC)-- Grassroots organizations and social movements in Venezuela have mobilized in the face of threats by right-wing politicians to roll back social programs.

Venezuelan supporters of the Bolivarian government and the country’s socialist revolution marched through the streets of Caracas on Tuesday in an expression of grassroots popular power in light of the swearing in of the new National Assembly, which for the first time in 17 years has come under the control of right-wing political parties.

The march began in the working class neighborhood known as 23 de Enero, a bastion of support for the Bolivarian Revolution and political activity for decades.  Marchers then continued on to the Miraflores Presidential Palace, where President Nicolas Maduro joined the demonstration as it headed to the National Assembly.
