Bogota, January 19 (RHC-PL) -- The European Union envoy for peace talks, Eamon Gilmore, Monday began a five-day visit to Colombia to meet with post-conflict minister, Rafael Pardo, the defense minister, Congress members and constituents.

This is the second trip to Colombia by the EU delegate to the talks with the insurgent FARC-EP since his appointment in November 2015.

Gilmore's agenda includes a meeting with Pardo about the creation of a Trust Fund for Peace in Colombia, which will administer the financial contributions of the member countries of the European Union.

Since 2012, representatives of the Government and of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) have been holding talks in Havana to find a solution to the long internal conflict.

According to progress made thus far, the negotiators are trying to end this year with a treaty to put an end to the conflict.

According to official reports, Gilmore will wind up his stay in Colombia on Jan.22. During his stay he is also scheduled to meet with Defense Minister Luis Carlos Villegas, Attorney General Alejandro Ordóñez and legislators.
