Montreal, August 11(RHC)-- A panel discussion entitled 'Tribute to Fidel Castro on His 90th Birthday' will be held on August 12th at the University of Quebec in Montreal, Canada, as part of activities of the World Social Forum (WSF) 2016, which is holding sessions there through August 14th.

The WSF is the largest gathering of civil society to try to find solutions to the problems of today's world. Launched in Brazil in 2001, every year the Forum brings together thousands of individuals from around the world, who participate in numerous activities.

With the support of over 200 civil society organizations across Canada and the world, this year's forum gathers together over 12,500 civil society representatives from 20 countries, under the slogan “Another world is Needed. Together it is possible.”

Panelists at Friday's event dedicated to the Cuban revolution leader will include Dr. Claude Morin, a retired History professor at the University of Montreal, who has written extensively about Cuba and Arnold August, a Canadian journalist and also author of a number of books about Cuban democracy.

In announcing the panel discussion to celebrate Fidel's 90th birthday, WSF said: 'This August 13, Fidel celebrates 90 years of a life he has assumed as few other men have on this planet. His stature as a champion of human development and international solidarity has made Cuba a significant player on the world stage.

'His longevity has made him the most experienced leader in the world, a tireless fighter for all the causes that have universal value (education, health, peace, solidarity, justice, environmental protection, and against hegemony, plunder, and neo-liberalism). Fidel certainly stands among men of exception. This anniversary calls upon us to explore certain aspects of his work and personality.”
