Paris, September 8 (RHC)-- Cuban Education Minister Ena Elsa Velásquez said in Paris that the Caribbean state is ready and willing to support and contribute to national and international literacy programs anywhere in the world.

Addressing a ministerial meeting of the World Conference on Literacy, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) the minister spoke about the implementation of the Cuban teaching method 'Yo sí Puedo' (Yes, I Can), in countries all over the world. She said that thanks to the Cuban method, over nine million people have already learned how to read and write.

Minister Velásquez explained that the program is adapted to the specific needs and characteristics of the target population. She added that the method has already been successfully applied in foreign languages, among them English, French, Portuguese, as well as the native languages like Aymara and Quechua.
