Havana, September 15 (RHC)-- Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj arrived in Cuba Wednesday evening for an official visit. He was received at Havana's José Martí International Airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra.

"With this visit, I hope to bring the two countries closer and expand traditional relations," said the Mongolian head of state upon his arrival. He noted that Mongolia has always been a good friend of Cuba on the Asian continent.

During his stay, which runs through Sunday, the distinguished visitor will hold official talks with his Cuban counterpart President Raúl Castro, among other activities.

Cuba was the first nation in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia in 1960.

Cooperation between the two nations includes projects in education, health and sports, and more than 100 Mongolian health professionals have trained in Cuba to date.

Mongolian Foreign Minister Liundeg Puruvsuren visited Cuba in 2015 to review with Cuban authorities prospects for expanded trade and investment relations.
