Havana, September 28 (RHC-ACN)--  The Cuban Attorney General´s Office said the meeting here in Havana of Cuban and U.S. prosecutors signals both countries' interest in boosting bilateral exchanges, which by no means entails compromising Cuba's national sovereignty and independence.

Deputy Attorney General Marlen Fernandez Machado said that the forum, which began Monday at Havana's Hotel Nacional, is further evidence that respectful dialogue is a valuable mechanism to build communication bridges between legal experts from the two countries.

She made clear though that Washington's illegal policy of blockade against Cuba remains in force, causing serious economic damages to the Cuban economy and acute hardships to the island's people.

The visiting U.S. delegation is headed by Douglas Shin Ging Chin, Attorney General of the State of Hawaii and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG) of the United States.

Members of the delegation include lawyers, representing the states of Hawaii, New Mexico, Colorado, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Washington DC, Utah, Wisconsin, Kansas, Idaho and Indiana.

In statements to the press, Shin Ging Chin voiced the delegation's interest in learning first hand about the Cuban judicial system, its structure and functioning, and providing also details about the the U.S. judicial system.
