Havana, May 11 (RHC)-- The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States has approved a resolution, condemning the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba.
The ACP resolution, approved in the context of the recently held 105th meeting of the bloc's Council of Ministers, condemns the imposition of unilateral coercive sanctions against states with the objective of preventing those states from exercising their legitimate right to determine their own political, economic and social system.
A communique issued by the Cuban embassy in Brussels indicated that the text also rejects the application of unilateral and extraterritorial measures and legislations that contravene international law, like the Helms-Burton Law. It further states that the extraterritorial nature of the U.S. blockade prevents Cuba from complying with its financial obligations to the ACP group.
The Cuban delegation that participated in the ACP ministerial session denounced a decision by ING Bank, which handles the accounts of the ACP Group's Secretariat, to not accept payments made by Cuba --a further indication of the extraterritorial nature of the U.S. blockade.
The Cuban diplomatic mission in Brussels noted that since Cuba became a full member of the ACP Group in 1999, the Caribbean state has honored its financial obligations with the bloc, as an expression of solidarity and commitment with member states.
