Miami, February 10 (RHC)-- Charlie Crist, former governor of the U.S. state of Florida, has described as an “ineffective relic” Washington's economic and financial blockade of Cuba, saying that the measure should be lifted.

The 57-year-old Democrat, in a statement to the media, admitted that the U.S. coercive measure has been useless over the past fifty years.

If Washington lifts the blockade, the retired governor said, it will allow U.S. Farmers and manufacturers from Florida to establish commercial relations with Cuba and sell their products and services. And he noted that this would boost the local economy and create jobs in Florida.

With these comments, Crist joined other Florida-based entrepreneurs that have demanded the lifting of the more than 50 year siege on Cuba that has inflicted a cost to the Cuban people calculated at more than one trillion 157 billion dollars, constituting a violation of the UN Charter and International Law.
