Havana, November 25 (RHC-Granma)-- A workshop entitled The Strategic Thought of Fidel Castro Ruz: International Relations and Foreign Policy, concluded Friday in Havana, and was dedicated to the revolutionary leader on the first anniversary of his death.

The workshop was an in-depth exploration of the ideology of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

It featured a conference by Eduardo Torres Cuevas, President of the Cuban Academy of History and director of the José Martí National Library; there were also two panel discussions on Fidel’s thought.

Addressing delegates, Torres Cuevas stated that “Fidel’s thought is now more necessary than ever,” pointing to the threat posed to humanity by the current world order.

He addressed three key issues linked to the work and thought of the Cuban revolutionary, statesman and politician.

First, he said that together with Lenin, Fidel is the most anti-dogmatic and intelligent figure of his time, with a special ability to transform his country’s reality.

Second, his understanding of the importance of unity and collective struggle toward achieving a common goal.

And last, Torres Cuevas highlighted José Martí’s influence on the thought and actions of Fidel, calling him a genuine follower of the ideals of justice and equity of the National Hero.

Ceremonies in memory of the late leader are taking place throughout Cuba.

Signs and banners reading,“Fidel is With Us” and “I am Fidel” emblazon the streets across the country. Students will hold a vigil on Saturday night at the University of Havana, from where Fidel graduated as a lawyer in 1950 and where he began his life as a revolutionary leader.

Earlier this week, Puerto Rican independence activist Oscar Lopez Rivera honored Fidel at his tomb, saying “I'll follow Fidel's example until my last breath.”
