Washington, December 13 (RHC-Minrex)-- A new technical meeting was held on Tuesday between authorities of Cuba and the United States to discuss the illicit trafficking of migrants and immigration fraud.   The talks were held in Washington, DC, with the objective of increasing bilateral cooperation in these areas.

The meeting was part of the dialogue on enforcement and compliance with current laws, which both parties maintain.  The Cuban delegation was made up of representatives of the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs.  The U.S. side was composed of representatives from the Departments of State and Homeland Security.

Authorities reviewed bilateral cooperation actions and updated information on the trends of illicit trafficking of migrants and immigration fraud.  Both sides agreed to move forward in the prevention and confrontation of this scourge, with the aim of continuing to reduce its negative impact on migration relations between the two countries.  And they noted that both Cuba and the United States have held these discussions since the adoption of the Joint Declaration of January 12, 2017.

Both parties agreed on the usefulness of the meetings held on Monday and Tuesday in the U.S. capital, and agreed to hold further talks -- alternating between Havana and Washington -- in the future.
