Cuba Says 2015 Development Agenda Must Include the Disabled

Havana, February 19 (RHC)-- Cuba backed requests at the United Nations on Wednesday for the inclusion of the issue relevant to the equality of opportunities for the disabled on the 2015 sustainable development agenda.

Cuba agrees to the need of taking actions that allow countering the negative impact by a weakening of official assistance for development on the inclusion of disabled persons in all social and economic programs, said Cuban representative Daylenis Moreno.

The diplomat addressed the UN Social Development Commission and called to consider the inclusion of the disabled in collaboration projects; she noted that the physically or mentally challenged persons make up for 15 percent of the world population and they are usually excluded from cooperation initiatives.

These people are part of a sector that has receive the negative impact by the fall in 2012 and 2013 of the assistance promised to poor nations by the developed countries.
