Havana, January 4 (RHC-ACN) --The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security, Federica Mogherini, said that while some try to isolate Cuba, Europeans are closer than ever to Cubans in their rejection of the U.S. economic blockade against the island.
In a keynote address before a hundred students at San Geronimo College in Havana, the diplomat advocated for the building of bridges and the opening of doors through cooperation and dialogue with the island.
Mogherini, who is also the vice president of the European Commission, stressed that the blockade is a policy that only worsens the quality of life of men, women and children in Cuba and that it is obsolete and illegal, and she added that the European Union will continue working to see its end.
In a clear message from Havana to the government of Donald Trump, that seeks to intensify the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the island, she insisted that this is not the time for demonstrations of force that lead nowhere.
Regarding the political dialogue and cooperation agreement between the EU and the island, which came into force provisionally last November, she said that it provides the opportunity to raise relations to a level that truly reflects the close historical, economic and cultural ties.
During the second and last day of her visit to the island this Thursday, Mogherini´s agenda includes a meeting with Esteban Lazo, President of the National Assembly of People's Power, and a working session the minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
