Colombo, February 21 (RHC) Media outlets in Sri Lanka stressed the good state of relations with Cuba and the coincident views of both countries in the international arena, in tune with a visit to Havana by Environment minister Susil Premajayantha.

The print press, radio, television and websites published articles on the meeting in Havana between the visiting official from Sri Lanka and Cuban first vice-president Miguel Diaz-Canel, in which they corroborated common views with respect to regional and international issues.

Sri Lanka is waging an intense diplomatic campaign against US attempts to achieve the Human Rights Council probe into alleged war crimes in that island during the final blow against the Tamil Tigers separatist movement in May 2009.

Minister Premajayantha is one of the envoys of president Mahinda Rajapaksa to 47 Human Right Council member nations and his visit is aimed at rejecting accusations and exposing the advancement of the reconciliation and reconstruction process underway in the Southern Asian nation.

Some countries, such as China, Russia and Vietnam have expressed their rejection of the U.S. attempt, about which Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia and other countries have expressed their reserves. The US action would only receive the support of the United Kingdom and the European Union.
