Matanzas, January 15 (RHC-Granma)-- Cuban electrical workers have ratified their commitment to continue raising the quality of services this year. During the national ceremony for the Day of the Electrical Worker, celebrated at the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant in Matanzas, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, Secretary General of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC) was on hand.
Officials pointed to the worker's prompt response to the problems following Hurricane Irma in twelve provinces of the country. A group of workers in the sector received the Ñico López Distinction, outstanding groups were recognized.
José Cabrera Cabrera, general secretary of the Energy and Mines Trade Union, gave a brief account of the performance in 2017, stating prompter response to interruptions, installation of over 33,000 new services, and 36 megawatts from solar photo-voltaic parks synchronized with the national energy grid.
In statements to the press, Raúl García Barreiro, first deputy minister of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, praised the work of the groups in the field in the recovery of electrical infrastructure after the passage of Hurricane Irma and also stressed the solidarity of Cuban electrical workers in other nations.
