Havana, January 23 (RHC-ACN)-- A Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation relations between Cuba and Spain was signed Monday by María Esther Reus González, Cuban Minister of Justice (MINJUS) of Cuba, and her Spanish counterpart Rafael Catalá Polo.
The document was signed in the presence of Homero Acosta Álvarez, secretary of the Council of State; and Juan José Buitrago de Benito, Spain's ambassador accredited in Havana. Its objective is to facilitate collaboration to contribute to the development and harmonization of public policies, norms and procedures on law in general.
According to Catalá Polo, its purpose is to improve existing links between the two States, and to add additional elements, among them, the improvement of civil registries and legislative reforms in order to contribute to the application of quality justice. The agreement also facilitates the creation of a consular working group.
According to Reus González, the Memorandum of Understanding constitutes another area of contact between Cuba and Spain, and the two institutions are undertaking an improvement of common areas such as the registry and notarial systems, as well as the computerization of services.
