Havana, Feb 27 (RHC)— Preparations are underway in Cuba for the establishment of an institution that will work to preserve the documentary heritage and to promote the study and dissemination of the thoughts and work of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

President Raul Castro chaired a meeting Monday for the establishment of a working group that will be tasked with the elaboration of proposals on the structure of that entity.

Some 30 experts representing different specialties and institutions have been convened by the island´s authorities to conform the working group.

President Castro described the task as one of utmost importance and he affirmed that preparations for the establishment of the new institution will be overseen by the country´s top leadership.

According to Vice-president Miguel Diaz Canel, who will be in charge of supervising the performance of the working group, the new institution´s goal will be to preserve for future generations all information gathered over the years on Fidel Castro´s fruitful life that make part of the nation´s historical heritage.

A presidential decree released during the meeting established the creation of the working group that will be headed by Alberto Alvariño, who on behalf of its members, said that they will assume the historical duty vested upon them with full dedication.

According to the presidential decree, the working group is expected to make proposals on the institution´s conceptual foundations, principles, functions and structures.

The establishment of the new institution responds to the provisions of Cuban Law 123 of December 26, 2016, on the use of the name and image of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, that stipulates the creation of a body for the study of his invaluable impact on the history of the nation.
