Brussels, March 15 (RHC)-- EU foreign policy and security chief Federica Mogherini, said in Brussels that the European block and Cuba are working toward enhancing bilateral ties based on mutual respect and dialogue.
Addressing the EU Parliament Wednesday, Mogherini stressed the importance of the 1st meeting of the EU-Cuba Joint Council, set for May this year, calling it an opportunity to consolidate and expand joint actions toward strengthened links.
The EU high representative described this new era in EU-Cuba relations as very promising and pointed to renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and culture as areas with great potential for cooperation.
Mogherini stressed that at the upcoming Joint Council meeting, the EU and Cuba will again debate the negative impact of Washington's nearly six decade-old blockade on the Cuban economy and people.
She reaffirmed the EU's determination to further expand and consolidate its relations with the Caribbean state.
