Port of Spain, May 25 (RHC)-- A Cuban delegation, led by deputy president of the National Assembly Iris Betancourt Téllez, has participated in the 10th Meeting of the Pan American parliamentary network for gender equality, held May 22nd through the 25th in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
The meeting, convened under the theme "climate action gender perspective", served as a an opportunity for parliamentarians from Latin American and the Caribbean to exchange their experiences and legislative practices. The aim was to strengthen the countries' response to climate change based on a gender approach and perspective.
Women, as a social group affected by climate change, tend to be excluded from decision-making processes, thus hindering their contribution, with knowledge and experience, to the design and implementation of climate change policies.
During the meeting in Trinidad and Tobago, the participating parliamentarians debated on the critical role women legislators should play in their respective legislative systems, thus ensuring that the gender perspective is taken into account in the fight against climate change.
