Havana, August 15 (RHC)-- According to an article in this morning's edition of Granma newspaper, since the beginning of the constitutional reform process, much has been written about the reasons change is needed, and foremost among these is the need to adjust the country’s fundamental law to our current reality, especially the transformations underway as the Policy Guidelines from the Seventh Party Congress of the Communist Party are implemented.
Granma says it is clearly evident in the proposed constitutional reform that the updating of Cuba’s economic model is based on documents approved during the Seventh Party Congress which point toward a more just society.
The article in Granma newspaper points out that the popular consultation began on Monday and continues through November 15th, and that many have noted that this reform is consistent with the economic update underway. And that there are many connections to documents approved during the Seventh Congress of the Communist Party -- defending a sovereign, socialist, democratic, prosperous and sustainable society.
Granma notes that basic principles in the current Constitution will be maintained, including the reaffirmation that our economic system is based on the socialist ownership of the means of production by the entire people.
