Cuban president backs same-sex marriage in interview with teleSUR

Havana, September 17 (RHC-TeleSUR)-- Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel defended the right to consensual same-sex marriage, which has been approved by the country's National Assembly as part of the draft constitution that is now being discussed by the people in broad public debates across the country.

In an exclusive interview with the multinational television network teleSUR aired on Sunday, Díaz-Canel said: "Let's not give way to any kind of discrimination."

In the interview, his first to a media outlet since he assumed the presidency on April 19, the Cuban President spoke about a wide range of issues, namely, U.S.-Cuba relations, LGBTQ rights, Latin American politics and the ongoing nationwide constitutional reform process.

One of the biggest and most debated proposals in the proposed text is the right to choose a partner according to one’s sexual orientation.
