Havana, November 15 (RHC)-- Cuban doctors who were in Brazil participating in the More Doctors Program arrived early Thursday in the Cuban capital.
The island's ministry of Public Health announced on Wednesday the decision to withdraw from the Program, due to the unacceptable conditions placed on its doctors and medical personnel by Brazil´s president-elect Jair Bolsonaro.
Upon their arrival, the specialists backed the decision of the island's government. “This is the right decision,” Dr. Fred Delgado told Prensa Latina news agency. Delgado, who is a general doctor, said there is no reason to accept questions about the principles and knowledge of the Cuban medical personnel who have only brought well-being to millions of Brazilians.
That was also the opinion of Dr. Doraida Aldana, who together with her colleagues regretted the end of the agreement between Cuba and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) that provided for the participation of the island´s professionals in the Program. “They will feel our absence,” she told Prensa Latina.
Receiving the returnees at the Jose Marti International Airport was Deputy Minister of Health Regla Angulo, who praised their performance and the solidarity vocation.
Created in 2013, the More Doctors program had in then president Dilma Rouseff its main promoter, and it sought to ensure the presence of national and foreign doctors in poor and remote areas of Brazil.
