Havana, February 8 (RHC)-- Members of the Federation of Secondary Education (FEEM) and University Students (FEU) organizations will collaborate voluntarily in the referendum that is being prepared in Cuba to ratify the new Constitution.

According to the leaders of both groups, more than 31 thousand students are committed to guarantee the quality and transparency of the referendum on February 24th.

This initiative, in addition to contributing to the success of the process, allows the students to acquire new experiences in their preparation for teaching in terms of their civic education.

The contribution of the students will be essential to correct  organizational and legal problems and guarantee the smooth running of the referendum. It is an essential step in the improvement of the Cuban electoral system and further democratizes participation in elections.

As collaborators, the students will participate at different moments of the process; for example, during the inauguration of the commissions, in the training of the electoral authorities, in the dynamic test and on the day of voting.

More than eight million Cubans are called to ratify on February 24 the new constitution of the Republic approved on December 22 by the National Assembly of People's Power.

The Magna Carta ratifies the socialist character of the island and the leading role of the Communist Party  in its society.

It also includes changes in the structure of the State, extends guarantees and human rights, promotes foreign investment and recognizes various forms of property, including private property.
