Havana, February 25 (RHC)-- Millions of Cubans voted to establish a position on the new Constitution of the Republic and to confirm their support for the island´s democratic system. The preliminary results of the referendum will be disclosed Monday afternoon at a press conference by the president of the National Electoral Council, Alina Balceiro.
During the consultation, voters on the island´s 15 provinces and the Isle of Youth special municipality answered the question 'Do you ratify the new Constitution of the Republic?'.
According to the last update report provided by the National Electoral Commission. until 17:00 local time 7.524 318 citizens over 16 years, 81.53 percent of those registered, had exercised their right to vote.
After the closing of the some 24,000 polling stations at 18:00, election officials proceeded to the open of the ballot boxes for the counting of the votes in a process that is public in the Caribbean island.
In polling in Havana and the the rest of the country, Prensa Latina news agewncy and other media witnessed a a strong majority of votes reflecting support for the new Constitution.
