Havana, April 10 (RHC)-- A book entitled ‘El libro de las Constituciones’ (The Book of the Cuban Constitutions) was presented in Havana.

The work of a collective of authors, it was presented in a solemn ceremony held in the Baraguá hall of the Capitol building –the headquarter of the Cuban Parliament. On hand were members of the politburo of the Communist Party of Cuba, Cuban first vice president Salvador Valdés Mesa and Parliament president Esteban Lazo Hernández.

The first two-volumes compile all previous Magna Cartas, statutes and laws proclaimed on the island in more than a century, between 1812 and 2002.

A third volume will be released soon, compiling the country’s New Magna Carta, as proclaimed this April 10th by the National Assembly of People’s Power.

During the ceremony, Council of State secretary Homero Acosta said the new compilation amounts to a key work in studying our nation’s history and toward a better understanding of Cuba’s reality. “The countries’ Constitutions constitute valuable, unique tools to study and best understand those countries’ history and reality.”

He said that the project to write this new book was conceived 20 years ago and that it reflects the political thinking and views of a nation, as well as its people’s emancipatory aspirations.
