Santiago de Cuba, May 14 (RHC)—A modern multipurpose terminal located at the Guillermon Moncada harbor in Santiago de Cuba bay is ready for its inauguration in May.
José Antonio Olivares, director of the facility reported that a container ship started unloading operations on Monday, as part of the start-up phase of the entire system to correct details of cargo handling and to verify operations safety.
He specified among the advantages the terminal its capacity to receive vessels of multiple types, including first port of call ships carrying staples for the eastern provinces, which currently dock in Havana and Cienfuegos terminals, implying greater freight costs to the Island.
The new terminal will provide the eastern part of the island with a safe port for the arrival and shipment of products, creating better conditions to import and export goods in containers, in bulk or in bags.
